1. Take a stroll at Lake Pichola
When you are in Udaipur, you cannot simply miss out on this place. Walk by the side of the lake, or sit for a while on the banks. Be ready to be mesmerised by the glittering water of the lake. The backdrop with the Aravalli range adds and enhances Lake Pichola’s beauty.
There are many Ghats i.ie banks around the lake which produce an enigmatic view. If you love photography, you can spend hours at Lake Pichola alone. You can even take a boat ride and get up close to the popular palaces and fancy hotels of the city.
2. Catch the sunset from the Monsoon Palace
An ardent lover of gorgeous sunsets? Head towards the Monsoon Palace, perched on a hill of Udaipur. Preferably a little before the sunset. You can either hike up to the palace or reach the palace by Land Rover.
After roaming in and around the palace, find yourself a suitable spot. Meanwhile, enjoy the tranquil ambiance as you wait for the sunset. Soak at the moment and witness the sun setting down behind. The entire city glows during the magical hour.
3. Immerse yourself in the glamorous City Palace
One of the best things to do in Udaipur is to visit the City Palace. I will never forget visiting this place on my trip to Udaipur. Although the palace remains crowded, you will find a way to escape it.
The vibrant palace is going to make your heart happy. Do not forget to check out the restaurant and bar on your exit.
4. Hog on to scrumptious food
Probably one of the favourite things to do alone in Udaipur is hogging some Rajasthani cuisine. The foodie in you will be highly satisfied. Every alley has food stalls in Udaipur. It is a paradise for street food lovers!
You must try the Natraj Thali, which comprises different curries, rice, veggies, and more. You should also taste some authentic Dal Bati Churma. There are plenty of options available for vegetarians in the city.
Oh, and if you have the budget, then please take yourself out on a date. Go to one of the finest rooftop restaurants in Udaipur and enjoy a lavish meal overlooking the gorgeous city of lakes.
5. Go for a hike amidst the Aravalli
Hiking and Udaipur don’t sound quite well together, isn’t it? However, to your surprise, there are quite a few hiking trails in Udaipur. So if you are an outdoor enthusiast, this is perfect for you. You can easily go on your own as the trails aren’t difficult.
The hike introduces you to the lifestyles of the locals as many trails go through the quaint villages of Udaipur. It is a great way to understand the life of the locals and connect with them.
6. Explore the outskirts of the city
After exploring the palaces and lakes of the city, you might want to take a day trip away from the city. Hitchhike or rent a cab to visit the major attractions on the outskirts of the city.
There are Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh forts on the outskirts of the city. You can cover Ranakpur Jain Temple on your way to Kumbhalgarh Fort. However, you need another day to cover the living fort of Chittorgarh. It depends upon which place you want to visit.
7. Visit the Ahar Cenotaphs
The Ahar Cenotaphs is one of the hidden gems of Udaipur. Many tourists are not aware of this cenotaph, but a visit to this place can be considered one of the best things to do in Udaipur alone.
The Ahar Cenotaphs are a few minutes away from the city centre. I was completely blown away when I first came across this place. The place is the burial ground of all the Mewar rulers, and it holds around 372 memorials! There are beautiful domes in different sizes with intricate architectural work on them. As you explore the place with a travel guide, learn about the history of Udaipur.
8. Enjoy at Bagore Ki Haveli
You simply cannot miss out on this. Bagore Ki Haveli is one spectacular attraction of Udaipur. You can explore the Haveli or palace from 10 AM to 6:30 PM throughout the week. It was built primarily for the prime minister during the reign of Maharana Pratap Singh II. The palace has over 100 rooms with balconies and corridors. The moment you step into the palace, you will feel like royalty!
The centre of attraction of this grand palace remains the Dharohar folk dance show. It starts every day from 7 PM. This show takes you on a cultural trip. Make sure to buy yourself a ticket beforehand. I am sure you will love every minute of the dazzling show!
