What is the best time to visit Udaipur?

Udaipur, a majestic lake city that sparkles with cultural and historical significance, is among the most popular tourist destinations in North India. The best time to visit this regal city is between the months of September and March. The climate is pleasant and a little chilly and makes for the perfect time for you to step out of your hotel and explore everything that Udaipur has to offer its visitors.

Another pleasant time to visit Udaipur would be between the months of July and September. These months constitute the monsoon season in the state and are a relief when compared to the hot and humid months!

Here is everything you need to know about the best time to visit Udaipur on your next solo trip.

Udaipur in monsoon

Owing to the earthy freshness, the monsoon season in Udaipur is pleasant and warm and lasts from July to October. The temperature ranges from 25⁰C to 35⁰C. Since it rains most days, the climate is quite soothing and perfect for tourists to visit Udaipur. There is so much that you can explore in Udaipur during these months, including boat rides, palace tours, cultural festivals, and rooftop dining that offers stunning views of this gorgeous city at night!

City Palace, Monsoon Palace, Lake Pichola, and Bagore ki Haveli are some of the tourist spots that I would recommend you check out on your next solo trip to the city. These places are mystical and look even stunningly beautiful during the monsoon season!

During the day, the climate gets a little warm so I would suggest that you wear comfortable clothes like pastels, light colours, thin fabrics. But don’t forget to carry a jacket or a thin cardigan with you when the night gets chilly.

Usually, the crowd in Udaipur during this season is quite less, which makes it a perfect time for solo female travellers or travellers who are looking for a vacation on a budget. You can even make your bookings well in advance to avail of great deals on your hotel rooms and solo tour packages.

Udaipur in summer

The summer season in Udaipur lasts from April to late June. During these months, the temperature rises up to 40⁰C and sometimes, even more, making it extremely humid and hot. I would recommend that you avoid visiting Udaipur during the summer season. And since the city is quite close to the desert, you may experience scorching heat and heatwaves as well.

Because of the extremely hot temperature, you will most probably be confined into your hotel room in Udaipur and won’t get a chance to explore its beauty. But you can step out during the night when the climate gets a little cooler.

Udaipur in winter

what is the best time to visit Udaipur

The winter season is the ideal time to visit Udaipur. Even though the temperature can be a little extreme and ranges from 10⁰C to 25⁰C, it is still beautiful and gives you plenty of tourist spots to explore. You can check out the beautiful monuments and architectural marvels in the city or take strolls along the lively and colourful streets of Udaipur. These streets are filled with local and some international artists selling some amazing, unique items that you can take back home as souvenirs for your loved ones. Don’t forget to try out the delicious Rajasthani cuisine and the local food at these street stalls. Rajasthani cuisine is one of its kind and quite famous in the country. If you are a foodie and love trying out different cuisines, then the Rajasthani cuisine will not disappoint you!

What to do in Udaipur during the winter season?

While there are a lot of sightseeing options in Udaipur, you can even try out some adventurous activities to get your adrenaline pumping. Considering that the city is in close proximity to the desert, you can try out the thrilling desert activities.

Another very touristy thing you can do in Udaipur is bird watching. I know it doesn’t sound all that interesting, but during the winter season, a whole lot of beautiful birds migrate to the city. And some of these belong to endangered species, so if you are someone who has a keen interest in birds, then this would be a great opportunity for you!

Do check out the colourful festivals that take place in Udaipur during the winter season as well. The city hosts some exciting festivals such as Kumbhalgarh Festival, Udaipur World Music Festival, and World Living Heritage Festival.

Since the climate will be cold throughout the day, I would suggest that you pack all your winter wear – cardigans, sweaters, mufflers, beanie caps, boots!

Don’t forget to carry your camera or a smartphone with good pixels, as you will see yourself reaching out to these gadgets to capture the beauty that Udaipur is! And since the city looks breathtakingly beautiful in the winter season, it makes more sense to take a tiny part of Udaipur with you back home!
