To stretch our legs and relax our minds off the terrors of keeping up with the itinerary. We’ve all been there. This blog post is all about the famous gardens in Udaipur that will refresh your souls on your solo trip to Udaipur. The famous gardens to visit in Udaipur are Saheliyon ki Bari, Gulab Bagh, Doodh Talai Garden, Motri Magh, Lake Palace Garden, Nehru Garden, Rajiv Gandhi Garden, and Pratap Garden.

1. The garden with an amazing view – Sahelion Ki Bari

Starting with my favourite garden, Sahelion Ki Bari Bagh (Garden of the Maidens). It is a must-visit garden destination for female travellers in Udaipur as it was built especially for the women of the Mewar kingdom. I love the whole vibrant structure of the garden. There is a single domed elevation supported by four pillars in the centre of a large pool. Basically, standing in this building gives you a 360-degree view of the garden. Since it is in the middle of the pool, you will feel like floating in the water like a lotus. Am I exaggerating? You can find it by paying a visit to this famous garden of Udaipur on your solo travel.

Timing: 09:00 am to 07:00 pm

Entry fee: Rs.10 for Indians; Rs. 50 for foreigners

2. The garden with a library – Gulab Bagh

The next famous garden of Udaipur is the largest in Udaipur as well. You guessed it right. Gulab Bagh! Gulab Bagh (The Rose Garden) is the largest garden in Udaipur. It is also the garden with the oldest zoo in Udaipur. Besides, it has pridefully rented out its place to the first library of Udaipur. So, you have three things to do while visiting this garden. First, simply relax amidst the lush surroundings. Second, visit the zoo by paying Rs. 5. Finally, seeing the oldest library in Udaipur located inside the garden. Entry to the library is free.

Garden timing: 24 hrs

Zoo timing: 10:00 am to 06:00 pm

Entry fees: Rs. 25

Camera charges: Rs. 15

3. The garden to venture – Dudh Talai Garden

Adding to the famous gardens is the Doodh Talai Lake garden. Deendayal Upadhyay Park and Manikya Lal Verma Garden are parts of the Dudh Talai lake garden. Their paths cross at the lake. Hence, they are known as the Doodh Talai Lake garden. From the Manikya Lal Verma Garden, you get stunning views of Lake Pichola and Lake Doodh Talai. Likewise, Deendayal Upadhyay park has got one of the best sunrise and sunset views of Udaipur. Sitting at the park, you can see the sunrise and sunset between the Fish hills, located adjacent to the park. Wait.

There is more to the list. From the Deendayal Upadhyay, you can take a cable car ride to the Karni Mata Temple located on the fish hill. Karni Mata Temple, also known as the Temple of Rats, is one of the famous temples of Udaipur you should see on your solo trip. Then, there is a light and music show for which the garden is notable.

Timing: 09:00 am to 10:00 pm

Entry fee: Rs. 20 for Indians; Rs. 30 for foreigners

Music show: 07:00 pm to 07:30 pm

4. The garden to admire – Motri Magh

If you wish for a place that is not just a garden to please eyes but also a historic location, Moti Magri (Pearl Hill) is the ideal place for you. Motri Magri is a small hill overlooking the Fateh Sagar Lake. On top of the hill, you can see a tombstone with the statue of King Maharana Pratap riding his horse Chetak. This place is the memorial ground of Maharana Pratap. The area around the statue is pampered with a garden.

Timing: 10:00 am to 06:00 pm

Entry fee: Rs. 20

5. Lake Garden Palace Udaipur

How could we miss the Lake Garden Palace? The Jag Mandir Island Palace, also called the Lake Garden Palace, is unmissable if you are itching for a true garden vibe. Except for the palace’s interiors, all the open-air areas can be counted as gardens. It is one of the captivating gardens in Udaipur, with top-notch greenery, fountains, flowers, and mountain views. I could still feel the cool breeze of the lake pushing my body while strolling through the garden. There are no entry fees. However, you have to pay for the boat ride to get to Jag Mandir Island Palace. It costs between Rs.400 to Rs.800.

Timing: 10:00 am to 06:00 pm

Entry fee: Nil

6. The island garden – Nehru garden

Moving on, we have Nehru Park, which has the highest visitor rate in Udaipur. The reason for the crowd in Nehru Park is that it is located on an island in Lake Fateh Sagar. So, you have to take a boat ride to the park, which is one of the popular activities to do at Fateh Sagar Lake. The boat ride amounts to Rs.200. If you ask my honest opinion, I would say it is not worth the money. It is just an ordinary garden with fountains. Its only speciality is its location on an island. Hence, I wouldn’t recommend it for solo travellers travelling on a budget. However, the fact that it is famous cannot be ignored.

Timing: 09:00 am to 06:00 pm

Entry fee: Rs. 30 for Indians; Rs. 125 for foreigners

7. The youngest garden of Udaipur – Pratap park

Pratap park is our next garden destination in Udaipur. It is called the youngest park in Udaipur. As it implies, the park has no historical roots and was constructed recently. However, what lures people’s attention is the “I love you Udaipur” signboard placed in the garden. It has become a religious thing for travellers to take a snap covering the sign. Surely, it is one of the best photo spots of Udaipur in the backdrop of Lake Pichola and the Aravalli mountains.

Timing: 10:00 am to 07:00 pm

Entry fee: Rs. 10

8. The garden of healing – Rajiv Gandhi park

The Rajiv Gandhi Garden is the busiest garden filled with locals in Udaipur. You will find people jogging, running, playing, and doing other chores. Watching these scenes itself is energising to your body and soul. So, when you feel low after travelling, you can come to relax your spirit in this garden. Here comes the best element of the garden. It has a small mountain called Lotan Magri (Rolling Mountain). It is well cushioned with grass. People lie down at the top of the mountain and roll down as a fun gesture. It is safe. And, doing it will certainly relieve your stress!

Do visit this garden on your solo trip to Udaipur and tell me about your experience rolling down the mountain. Was it fun? Did you have body pain? Or, as the locals claim, was it more like an acupuncture treatment?

Timing: 08:00 am to 07:00 pm

Entry fee: Rs. 5
