What are the best locations for sunrise/sunset views in Udaipur?

Udaipur is a city shimmering with lakes and flourishing in the shadow of the Aravalli mountains. As you can see from this picture of Udaipur, the best place to catch sunrise/sunset views is near its mountains and lakes, and Lake Pichola is the most popular destination. Having said that, travellers visiting Udaipur for the first time may miss out on the stunning sunspots Udaipur brings to them. I don’t want my fellow solo female travellers to miss out on anything!

Where to see the sunrise in Udaipur?

So, here is the list of the best locations to see sunrise/sunset in Udaipur. Doodh Talaki Lake, Lake Pichola, Monsoon Palace, Karni Mata Temple, Fateh Sagar Lake, Neemach Mata Temple, Pipliya Ji, and the ghats.

Three ghats of Lake Pichola

Let me first introduce you to the three ghats in Lake Pichola. Before that, what is a ghat? A ghat is a set of steps that leads to the water’s edge (Lake Pichola) located along with the promenade. So, the three ghats in Lake Pichola with admiring sunrise/sunset views are

  • Ambrai Ghat
  • Lal Ghat
  • Gangaur Ghat

The best thing about Ghats is that it’s the people’s sunspot in Udaipur. This is because these are ordinary locations with no entry fees. They are also less crowded. Hence, it is a convenient place for solo travellers who like to skip rush and enjoy some quiet time in the sun. While visiting ghats, you can simply stand on the promenade or calmly sit on one of the stairs to witness the sunrise/sunset.

Another speciality of ghats is its view. It gives the view of a large landscape in brimming yellow with no hindrances between you and the sun-just the silent waterbody. Lovely! And, in the evenings, if you look east, you can see the glorious vision of the sun’s golden rays capturing the city. For this reason, ghats are my favourite sunspot in Udaipur.

Boat ride in Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake

The next destination for a sunrise/sunset view is taking a boat ride in the famous lakes of Udaipur. Lake Pichola and Lake Fateh Sagar are our next sunspots, as you would have anticipated. Since we plan to meet the sun, the best time to take a ride is between 4:30 to 5.00 pm. You can’t leave the city without going for a boat ride in one of these lakes. It is just so mesmerising to watch the birds go home when both the water and sky are calm and serene!

Doodh Talai Lake

Doodh Talai (Milky Lake) is a small pond sandwiched between Lake Pichola and Machala Magra (Fish Hill) in Udaipur. It has two gardens, namely Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park and the Manik Lal Verma park, on either side. I would say Doodh Talai Lake is a fantastic spot for solo travellers because it has three attractions to make up for in Udaipur.

First, it has a beautiful garden with musical foundations where you can enjoy and relax. Second, it has an amazing sunset view. The sun setting far between Lake Pichola and Machala Magra is indeed breathtaking! Finally, you can take a cable car ride near Deen Dayal Park and go to the Karni Mata temple situated on Fish hill, which is, by the way, our next sun view destination.

Karni Mata Temple

Karni Mata Temple is a popular place to see sunrise/sunset in Udaipur. Here you can see the sunset unspoiled near the Aravalli mountains and also the panoramic shot of the city. To me, the sunset view was like seeing a filtered sunset wallpaper on the desktop. Just magical! It is my favourite sunspot in Udaipur after Pipliya Ji and the ghats.

Neemach Mata Temple

Neemach Mata Temple, set on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake, is a sunspot with panoramic views just like the Karni Mata Temple. But, it is not as handy as safely reaching Karni Mata Temple through a cable ride. Left with no options, you have to climb the stairs to the hill where the temple exists. It would be nice if it weren’t during summer in Udaipur. Or else you are doomed for good! You can always check the best time to visit Udaipur to avoid discomforts like this. But on reaching the hill, you will realise it was well worth the risk. The atmosphere is quiet, with only a few people gazing out at the city and the sun.

Monsoon Palace

Another panoramic sunspot in Udaipur is the Monsoon Palace, situated at the highest point of Udaipur. This is the ideal place for solo travellers looking to experience a beautiful panoramic view of the city and neighbouring landscapes. It also comes with attractive views of sunrise and sunset. Keep in mind that the palace is closed for visitors by 6.00 pm. So, make sure to get there in time to enjoy the view.

Pipliya Ji

Pipliya Ji is a monsoon village located 25 km away from Udaipur. With passing clouds, deep valleys, and high hill ways, reaching the village is an adventurous trip for a solo traveller. The highest peak of the monsoon village has mesmerizing sunset views, which you shouldn’t miss! I absolutely loved seeing the faraway mountains and lush backdrop gleaming in glorious yellow on my way to the village.

An extra spot!
