How to Protect Yourself from the Sun in Goa

“Prevention is better than cure” – this line perfectly suits this scenario. Protecting yourself from the sun is of utmost importance no matter where you are. Goa being a tropical place makes it even more necessary to protect yourself from the sun.

Besides using sunscreen, there are many ways to stay safe from the sun’s harsh rays. Safety is always a concern, be it staying safe in Goa or from the sun, isn’t it? I have gathered all the tips I have learned from my solo trip to Goa. Read further to put an end to your worry. I’m sure you won’t regret it!

1. Apply a generous amount of sunscreen

Sunscreen is the first and foremost thing required to protect yourself from the sun. You should never EVER forget to pack this item! It is probably the first thing I’d throw in my bags when heading to Goa.

When travelling to a tropical destination like Goa in India, always carry more sunscreen than usual. Otherwise, the beach tan is going to haunt you after your trip gets over. Also, keep in mind to choose sunscreen according to your skin type.

The sunscreens with higher SPF are better. I always preach a good sunscreen is a good investment. If you use it correctly, you can very well protect your skin from damage. Also, opt for a waterproof sunscreen when you plan to dip into the sea. You can refer to this site to see the best sunscreens to apply in Goa.

An added tip: Along with this, please keep your skin moisturised throughout your trip. This is a life lesson I have learned in Goa. Keep in mind to apply moisturiser before the sunscreen application. Honestly speaking, it makes a huge difference to your skin texture. It also clicks amazingly well in pictures.

2. Re-apply sunscreen from time to time

Be it you are on the beach or exploring the different touristy places in Goa, do NOT forget to re-apply sunscreen every couple of hours, even when you want that perfect beach tan. Remember that sunscreen does not last throughout the day.

3. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes

Whenever and wherever you are travelling in Goa, wear sunglasses. In fact, I would suggest you wear them until the sun sets! They are not only an addition to glam up your look but also to protect your eyes too. As you might know, the area under the eyes is sensitive, and the sun can cause damage to it easily.

Hence, wearing sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV rays and other quick damage is always a good idea!

4. A hat comes in handy to keep the sun at bay

Wearing a hat is another easy way to protect yourself from the sun. The hat also elevates your beach look. So you can opt for a hat to keep the sun at bay.

5. Use a lip balm with SPF

Often, while travelling, you may forget about the little things. Taking care of your lips falls under such a category. You do not want to end up with a dark patch on your lips at the end of your Goa trip.

Therefore, you should use an SPF-infused lip balm instead of a normal one.

6. Wear comfortable clothes

No matter what you apply on your screen, clothes are the best shield against the sun. Except for your time on the beach, wear clothes that are covered. You should choose the material keeping in mind the tropical weather of Goa.

I have recently come across clothes on the internet that helps to provide a shield against the sun’s UV rays. But I do not know how much I believe in it. However, you can check them out.

7. Avoid roaming during the afternoon

This is one thing I try to follow as much as possible. I try my best to avoid the sun in its peak hours. And would ask you to do the same. You can stay inside your Airbnbs or hotels during these hours. Or you can hop into a café or restaurant to avoid the sun.

8. Drink plenty of water

Stay hydrated, ladies. Roaming in the sun and not drinking enough water can cause dehydration. To protect yourself from sun exposure in Goa, you must fill your body with adequate fluid. So it is always better to carry a bottle of water with you.

Why is it necessary to protect yourself from the sun in Goa?

Exposure to the sun for long hours daily can harm your skin.

  • You may get sunspots when you’re exposed to the sun. And this gets even worse with time. Removing sunspots is a hell of a task!
  • Another reason I find it is necessary to protect yourself from the sun is to avoid damaging your skin cells. You are in Goa to have fun and enjoy your vacation. The last thing you would want to take back home is probably damaged skin.

Is it possible to avoid sun tan completely?
