What are the Places to Visit Near Lake Pichola?

Lake Pichola sits like a queen at the heart of the city. It is one of the prime lakes in the city of lakes. The artificial lake is encompassed by palaces, bridges, restaurants, islands, temples, and ghats. Some of Udaipur’s top tourist places lie in Lake Pichola’s neighborhood. You can visit Jag Mandir, City Palace, Lake Palace, Gangaur Ghat, Crystal Gallery, etc., as you tour around Lake Pichola.

The surrounding places have something for every kind of traveller in store.

1. Lake Palace – A floating paradise

Lake Palace is a sight to behold for every tourist. The floating appearance of the palace will surely stun you. The palace is in the middle of one of the islands of Lake Pichola. This was once a place for summer retreats for the royal members. Now it is turned into a five-star heritage hotel.

You should not miss a tour of this architectural wonder. However, if you are ready to pay the price, I suggest you stay a night at this royal palace and experience the royalty. The cost for a night’s stay starts at Rs. 35,000.

2. City Palace – A place of royalty

One of the significant tourist spots of Udaipur is City Palace. The City Palace is located on the eastern bank of Lake Pichola. I kid you not—you should explore the regal charm of this place by any means!

The lake elevates the 450 years old, the former abode of the Mewar rulers. As the City Palace lights up in the evening, you can see the reflection of its structure on the lake water. The palace’s calming aura, along with its visual treat, is mesmerising!

If possible, book yourself a stay near the palace. You can look for affordable hotels near City Palace according to your taste. The breathtaking views of the lake make these hotels worthy of staying in!

3. Jag Mandir – A temple on an island

Fan of architecture and nature? Then you absolutely cannot miss visiting Jag Mandir to treat your eyes. This is another popular attraction on the southern island of Lake Pichola.

As soon as you step onto the island, you will be greeted by the statues of elephants carved in white marble.

I recommend visiting the Gul Mahal, a sandstone pavilion with three chambers. As a solo traveller, it always feels great to have an insight into the lives of women of the bygone era.

And with prior arrangements, you can also have dinner at this 17th-century palace.

4. Simplistic Mohan Mandir

An interesting fact about Mohan Mandir is that it is a temple without any deity. It is situated on the North-East corner of Lake Pichola. It was built between 1628 and 1652 by Maharana Jagat Singh in the memory of one of his unofficial sons.

You can see the Gangaur Ghat from this temple. People also watch the prime festival of Udaipur, Gangaur, from here. So if you are in Udaipur during the Gangaur festival and want to avoid the gatherings at Gangaur Ghat, you know where to head!

5. Explore the historically rich Bagore ki Haveli

At a walking distance from Lake Pichola stands the magnificent Bagore ki Haveli. The museum takes you through the history of the former Mewar capital. A place ideal for history buffs to discover more about Udaipur.

Whether you are from a native or foreign land, you cannot miss the Dharohar folk dance show. It takes place in the evening throughout the week. After spending some time in solitude at the banks of Lake Pichola, you can buy tickets for this cultural show.

6. The ancient Gangaur Ghat

Ghats of Udaipur are the gateway to the pristine water of lakes. Gangaur Ghat is one such place. You can walk to the Gangaur Ghat and get closer to Lake Pichola.

Gangaur Ghat is famous among tourists as well as locals. People flock to this place to spend time in the evening or early morning. You can also go for a quick swim early in the morning in Lake Pichola from this place.

7. Swaroop Sagar Bridge – The connector

All the lakes of Udaipur are interconnected. Swaroop Sagar Bridge connects Lake Pichola to another famous lake in the city.

Maharana Swaroop Singh built it, and the sight of this bridge is beautiful!

8. The enchanting Crystal Gallery

Crystal Gallery is located on the shore of Lake Pichola. Hence, it is one of the popular destinations near the lake. The moment you enter the gallery, your jaws will drop! Truly a paradise for crystal lovers!

The gallery has the largest collection of crystals in the world. So if you are wondering whether or not it is worth visiting the Crystal Gallery, I would say it’s an absolute YES!

How to reach Lake Pichola

When you are in Udaipur, reaching Lake Pichola is no big deal! You can easily opt for public transport such as tonga, tuk-tuks, and taxis. There are public buses as well that connects different parts of the city.
