Udaipur is known for its historical significance. The royalty of the city is evident in the architectural work of the palaces. The rich historical background of the city attracts tourists from all over the world. On my couple of visits to the city, I was completely hooked to the culture of the city. Such experiences are very rare, and you must not miss out on them.

The best part about the city is that it is safe for solo female travellers to travel. The uniqueness of Udaipur lies in its traditional shows, handcraft artworks, and delicious food. Moreover, the people of the city welcome you with so much warmth that you can only fall in love with the city. Also, there is no city like Udaipur in India to provide you with something for every season for its travellers.

If you are excited to visit Udaipur after reading these paragraphs but still not fully convinced whether Udaipur is worth visiting or not, let me help you with it. I have compiled all the right reasons that will intrigue you to visit and fall for the city!

1. The scenic lakes of Udaipur

The elegant lake system of Udaipur has been the centre of attraction of the city for ages. The pristine water of the lakes creates a tranquil and romantic atmosphere. All the lakes are interconnected. Including both manmade and natural, there are about ten lakes in Udaipur. Below are some of the top lakes for you to look at.

  • A special mention of Lake Pichola is mandatory. If you are in Udaipur, you are bound to get mesmerised by the beauty of Lake Pichola. One can indulge in so many activities here. All the grandeur of Udaipur lies on the bank of Pichola Lake. The lake is famous for its sunset. You may take a boat ride during the sunset and enjoy the view or opt for a fine dining experience on a rooftop.
  • Fateh Sagar Lake is named after Maharana Fateh Singh. The lake is divided into three islands, and each one of them has something in store for you. The view of the Aravalli range with the lake is a combination made in heaven.
  • The city also houses the second largest artificial lake in the world named, Jaisamand Lake. The resorts here will give you a taste of royal luxury. The lake is situated at an approximate distance of 48 kilometres from the city.

2. Flip through the history at the City Palace and watch the light and sound show

During the day, explore the City Palace and witness the architectural wonder of Rajasthan. The largest palace of the state lies on the bank of Lake Pichola. The royal courtyards, pavilions, terraces, and rooms will surely amaze you. As you proceed towards evening, gear up for the famous light and sound show held at the City Palace. It is one of my favourite events in the city. The show will take you on a journey of the Mewar’s history. Book your tickets beforehand in your preferred language, i.e., Hindi or English. The show goes on for about an hour. This is a must-have experience if you are visiting Udaipur.

3. The peaceful ambiance at Saheliyon-Ki-Bari

Saheliyon-Ki-Bari, or the maiden of the garden, was built for the royal ladies to spend some time amidst nature. If you are a nature lover, I recommend you visit this place. Do not forget to carry your camera, as there are many picture-perfect frames inside the garden.

4. You can go on an endless shopping spree

The countless number of shops in Udaipur is why you should go on a shopping spree! The vibrant, colourful markets, handcrafted goods, cheap leathers, pieces of jewellery, antique pieces, clothes, and whatnot. If you love to shop, then I must say you are in your own Disney land!

Always head to the local market with a bag to carry the things that you purchase. It is extremely difficult to resist such beautiful affordable goods. I couldn’t stop buying random unique little things I found in the local markets, such as Bapu Bazar!

5. Witness the cultural show at Bagore Ki Haveli

One of the main reasons to visit Udaipur is its cultural significance. If you have a keen interest in the traditional music and dances of Rajasthan, then book your tickets to this show. Get ready for an evening packed with different events. The programmes range from a magic show, folk dance, puppet shows, etc. The Dharohar dance show will easily become the highlight of your trip to Udaipur.

6. People of the city

One of the main reasons why I love Udaipur is because of its people. They are extremely welcoming and kind. They make sure to take care of you and help you in time of need. You will come across different types of people in the city. If you are lucky, you might even bond with some locals and get a look into the other side of Udaipur.

7. Hog on local delicacies

Be it Udaipur or anywhere in the world, food remains one of the biggest reasons to visit the place. A foodie will be highly satiated in the city of Udaipur. The array of delicacies will leave you drooling. From deep-fried snacks to delicious desserts, Udaipur has it all! Go on your food adventure at Sukhadia Circle and taste the local cuisines.
