Palaces are the soul of Udaipur. Some of these palaces are turned into luxury stays to offer you a royal feeling. Being on a budget and staying in a palace seems like a distant dream, isn’t it? Do not worry. Udaipur has got your back. Kankara Haveli, Madri Haveli, Jagat Niwas Palace, Boheda Palace and Gangaur Palace are a few pocket-friendly affordable palaces to stay in Udaipur. So without burning a hole in your pocket, you can feel like a queen and experience the royal life on your solo vacation to Udaipur.

Before moving on any further, I must tell you not to expect anything extremely fancy or luxurious at these inexpensive palaces. It is always better to embrace the place as it is. But I can assure you that these palaces have an old rustic charm. Also, most of these palaces are situated in the best locations in the city. The stay at these palaces usually comes under Rs. 5000 for a night. Keeping the cost in mind, you are in for a treat!

1. Kankara Haveli

This mansion, a.k.a Haveli, is without a second thought one of the best pocket-friendly heritage properties to stay in Udaipur. Though it might be a bit expensive, every penny you spend is worth it at this palace. The stay comes at a rate of Rs. 4200 for a night.

Amongst many perks, the 18th-century Kankara Haveli is situated at a prime location overlooking Lake Pichola. Hence, you have easy access to all the famous spots in Udaipur. You can walk to the Bagore ki Haveli- one of the must-visit places in Udaipur. Besides, the mansion is also at a mere distance of 8 minutes from the popular City Palace.

Oh wait, there’s more to it! You will be welcomed with a unique view of the lake as you enter the Haveli. If you are a photography lover like me, get your gears ready to capture the royalty of this palace. The rooms are upgraded with beautiful decors and several amenities for a comfortable stay. The hospitability of this place is commendable.

2. Madri Haveli

If you are looking for a peaceful stay at a palace, head towards the Madri Haveli. This property which belonged to the Kings of Madri, is over 300 years old and perched on a hill. Imagine living like a queen and having the time of your life away from the hustle-bustle of the city. The architectural work will leave you spellbound as you walk into the mansion. There are about 14 rooms available, but I suggest you opt for a suite. The suite in this mansion gives you glimpses of the old charm of the palace. They are spacious and have a lovely sitting area for you to lay back and relax.

It is situated in close vicinity of the City Palace, which is at a 10-minute walking distance from the Haveli. The railway station and airport are also nearby. Adding to this, the specialty of this palace remains the terrace dining area. Enjoy the 360° view of Udaipur as you munch on delicious Mughlai cuisine. Once you know the palace’s rates, you will feel like you have hit the jackpot! The cost per night at this lavish palace starts from Rs. 1500.

Considering everything, I would say this place is ideal for experiencing royalty. Make sure to spend at least a night at this palace on your trip to Udaipur.

3. Gangaur Palace

The Gangaur Palace or the Ashoka Haveli is a fine blend of elegance and royal charm. It is one of the best places to stay near the stunning City Palace. The interior of the palace makes it stand out from the rest. The architecture showcases the craftwork of ancient times.

You can experience a stay at this palace, starting just from Rs. 1500.

The rooms are filled with all the necessary items. The beds are comfortable, and cozy décor ensures you a nice stay at the palace.

4. Jagat Niwas Palace

Simplistic yet grand in style, Jagat Niwas Palace is a 17th-century mansion. Located in Lal Ghat, the best part is that the palace is within walking distance of major tourist spots of Udaipur. You are at a popular spot, and hence your safety is assured. If you are someone who loves to shop on your vacation, the narrow lanes near the palace are like a Disneyland for you!

The architecture of the bygone era is well-maintained. The white walls of the palace speak of the enteral beauty of the White City. There are lake-facing rooms with Aravalli range at a distance. They also offer a candlelight dinner on the Jagat Sagar, which is for sure one of the unforgettable experiences in Udaipur. Enjoy the luxury of staying here at a rate of Rs. 3800 for a night.

5. Boheda Palace

The Boheda Palace is a secretive den and a hidden gem for an incredible stay. The Boheda Palace is not only affordable but also one of the best places to experience great hospitability. The hotel staff welcomes you with such warmth that you will immediately feel the royal vibe! Once you walk into the palace, you will realise it resembles Udaipur’s colourful, captivating heritage. The ceilings are hand-painted, and the arched balconies and gateways showcase the old-age architecture of the former Mewar kingdom.

The hotel also arranges horse safari and painting classes on demand. The best part is the free parking! This remains one of my favourite things as hassle-free parking is a big deal while travelling. It costs Rs. 3000 for a stay at this palace.
