Lake Pichola is the lifeline of the city of lakes. It is not just a famous attraction of Udaipur. Instead, it connects you to many other tourist locations in Udaipur. The lake, for example, is surrounded by various temples, shrines, restaurants, resorts, and havelis, providing stunning views of Udaipur. Such a heart-throbbing lake is an artificial water bank built in the 14th century. It also offers unique and fun experiences that last long in the memory. You can partake in boat riding, camel riding, dining by the lake, visiting Jag Mandir island, window shopping, touring the nearby locations, watching the skyline, and taking historic photographs. Let’s quickly look at these activities Lake Pichola opens to its visitors in detail.

1. Taking a boat ride on the lake

What are the Activities to Do at Lake Pichola?

Taking a boat ride is a must-do activity on Lake Pichola. Lake Pichola opens for a boat ride from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. So, you have a whole day to go boating. That begs the question, which is the right time to take a boat ride? If you want to take a cheaper ride, go between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. It costs Rs. 400. If you take a ride between 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, it costs Rs. 800. This is one way to choose the best timing for a ride. On the other hand, if you are considering the landscape view, taking a sunset boat ride is the best. Lake Pichola is a signature location with the best sunset view in Udaipur. Hence, sunset lovers go for the evening ride, and money lovers take the morning ride!

2. Watching the Udaipur skyline from the Ghats

The next activity you can do is watch the skyline view of Udaipur from the ghats of Lake Pichola. Lake Pichola has two famous ghats attached to it. They are Ambrai Ghat and Gangaur Ghat. Do ghats sound familiar? Ghats are a passage of steps leading to the lake. They come with pavement as well. Sitting in the ghats and enjoying the view of the Udaipur is my favourite activity on Lake Pichola. I like spending time with myself like every solo traveller. And it is also an aesthetically pleasing experience. The feeling of breezy wind blowing through your hair while watching the shimmering lake and the sun stretching to cover the sky. The world is buzzing, and you are there alone, feeling every second. Thoughts from a solo traveller!

3. Camel riding on its banks

Camel riding? Yes, you can do camel riding on the banks of Lake Pichola. It is not as exciting as a desert ride. It is more of a casual ride with a camel walking you on the banks of Lake Pichola. The camel ride in Lake Pichola costs between Rs. 300 to Rs. 500.

4. Window shopping

Shopping is, of course, on our list of things to do in Lake Pichola. As you can expect, roadside shops will be lined up along the banks to entice travellers. Even though it is not the best shopping destination, you may simply stroll through the shops. Enjoy their exhibits, try bargaining, and steal some cheap stuff.

5. Taking photographs from the Swaroop Sagar Bridge

Another activity you can do in Lake Pichola is getting to the Swaroop Sagar Bridge and taking epic photographs. Swaroop Sagar Bridge connects Lake Pichola with the Swaroop Sagar Lake. The ancient bridge is well known for its capturing architecture. With the addition of a bridge, Lake Pichola resembles the canals of Venice. A perfect location for photographs! The bridge looks especially beautiful in the evening when Lake Pichola is lit up.

6. Touring the nearby places on foot

Moving on, let’s see what else Lake Pichola has got for solo travellers. Touring of Udaipur in the company of Lake Pichola is another activity Lake Pichola brings to you. Most of the tourist attractions of Udaipur are within the boundaries of Lake Pichola. You can walk along the banks of Lake Pichola and visit these places on foot. Places such as City Palace, Bagore Ki Haveli, Ambrai Ghat, Gangaur Ghat, and Jagdish Temple are located near the lake. So, you can take a walking tour to these places from Lake Pichola.

7. Visiting Jag Mandir Island

What are the Activities to Do at Lake Pichola?

To your delight, you have tourist destinations located on the lake as well. So, a walking tour along the banks of Lake Pichola is not the end. You can visit the lagoon locations on Lake Pichola, such as Jag Mandir, Mohan Mandir, Leela Palace, and Taj Palace. All these places are royal sites now turned into five stars hotels. Of course, visiting the five-star turned palaces cost you a fortune. I guess it costs Rs. 50,000 for a day’s stay there. And unless you book a stay, you can’t visit these palaces. However, there is one exception—Jag Mandir Island. Jag Mandir Island is free of cost and is open to the public. Visiting Jag Mandir Island is a worthwhile activity to do in Lake Pichola.

8. Dining beside the lake

I have saved the best for the last. Dining near Lake Pichola is a super charming activity you can try out on your solo trip. It can be rooftop or open-air corridor dining, literally any type with a lake view. Jaiwana Haveli Rooftop, Upré By 1559 AD, Natural View Restaurant and Udai Kothi Restaurant are some of the best dining places by Lake Pichola.

Must-do activities in Lake Pichola

So, yeah. These are the few activities you can take part in Lake Pichola. Nevertheless, I consider boat riding, visiting Jag Mandir, and rooftop dining as the must-do activities in Lake Pichola. So, keep them on the mandatory checklist! If you need any help regarding your solo trip to Udaipur, please feel free to ask in the comments. I will be happy to help you.
